1st course: question forms

Question forms

I - Questions with question words: what, where, which, how, who, when, why, whose.
« Where is the station? ». The station is in Boulevard Djillali Bounaama.
Note:
1)- What, which and whose can be followed by a noun.
What size do you take?
Which coat is yours?
Whose book is this?
2)- Which is generally used when there is a limited choice
Which is your husband? This one or that one?
This rule is not always true! What
Which newspaper do you read?
3)- How can be followed by an adjective or an adverb.
How big is his new car?
How fast does it go?
II - Questions with no question words:
The answer to these questions is yes or no (short answers).
Are you hot? Yes, I am/ No I’m not.
Is she working? Yes, she is/ No she isn’t.
Form:
1)- verb forms with an auxiliary verb:
Positive: she is reading. They are reading a newspaper.
Question: Is she reading? What are they reading?
2)- verb forms with no auxiliary verb: in the positive, there is no auxiliary verb in the present simple and the past simple.
*They live in Algiers.
He arrived yesterday.
Ahmed comes from Algiers.
*Do/ does/ did is used in the question.
Do they live in Algiers?
Where does Ahmed come from?
When did he arrive?
General training: Ask question about the word/phrase in "Gras"
1)- There is a cup of tea on the tray.
2)- There are two shoes on the floor.
3)- There are three trees in our street.
4)- There are seven pencils on the desk.
5)- Thus cat is in the sun.
6)- Affafe has an art class on Monday.
7)- After physical training, there is a break of twenty minutes at half past ten.
8)- This weekend, Amine is going to the country with his family to have a nice holiday.
